Description
“Fantastic Leaves” is the tenth Chapbook or Photozine from Simon, based on his personal photography.
This Chapbook “Fantastic Leaves” is A5 in size, made up of 32 pages and featuring 17 photos captured by Simon. Thoughtfully printed on quality, heavy-duty paper (more details below), only 200 will ever be printed of these limited-edition chapbooks. Each one is numbered.
From inside the back cover;
You might credit the idea for this chapbook theme to Irish sculptor John Behan. I have seen one of his “Bronze Birds in Flight” whipped and wrapped by a trained wisteria. It was reconfigured as an inversion of power, an unintended green tableau, in which the entwining organic leaves appeared to restrain, if not smother, the metal-frozen doves.
Fantastic flying beasts such as dragons, phoenices or snallygasters might be similarly constrained. Meanwhile, as trees shed for autumn, why not cast their ephemeral leaves in fantastic tableau?
I am mindful of the ancient Buddhist birch-bark scrolls that are no longer intelligible. They haven’t faded. We, humanity, have forgotten the script.
