This “Turtle Plaque” was inspired by a recent holiday in Barbados, this turtle wall plaque can be hung or doubled-up as a pot stand in the kitchen (as a fired, ceramic piece it’s very heat resistance. I hand-sculpted this piece from white clay and decorated it with coloured slips and sgraffito. Finally, the piece was fired with a clear, glossy glaze to make a lovely finish.
“Turtle Plaque” is, as you can see, an unusual shape. It’s approximately 24 cm long and 17 cm wide and about 0.5 thick.
This is a unique piece – only one is available.
As you’ll see from the photos, it has three holes near its head and “shoulders” that you can use to hang it as a wall plaque. You don’t need to hang it on a wall as it can easily be displayed on a flat surface. It is also perfectly suited for use as a pot stand.
I quite like using turtles as inspiration for pieces and they then to quite popular. Here are some images of some recent items that I’ve made using turtles in the design. Unfortunately, all of these items have been sold, except for the greeting card which is still available.
